FAQs

What conditions do your podiatry specialists treat?

Our board-certified podiatrists treat the full range of foot and ankle conditions, from routine concerns to complex, chronic issues. Common reasons patients visit include:

  • Ingrown toenails, fungal infections, and calluses
  • Chronic heel pain and plantar fasciitis
  • Fractures, sprains, and tendon injuries
  • Bunions, hammertoes, and other structural changes
  • Diabetic foot care and preventive screenings
  • Pediatric Deformities and Injuries

Every concern is given a full specialist-level evaluation, whether it involves a minor irritation or a more involved injury, since even small imbalances can lead to strain elsewhere if left unaddressed.

Can a podiatrist help with foot pain caused by sports activities?

Yes. Our specialists regularly treat athletes of all ages, from student competitors to adults staying active in recreational leagues. Rather than treating pain in isolation, we evaluate gait and biomechanics to identify the underlying cause, which may involve overuse, a structural imbalance, or an acute injury sustained during activity. Based on that evaluation, treatment may include:

  • Custom orthotics to correct a specific alignment issue
  • Physical therapy to rebuild strength and mobility
  • Activity modification guidance tailored to your sport
  • Bracing or taping for additional support during recovery

Because growth plates in younger athletes are still developing, we recommend a prompt evaluation for any lingering limp or change in walking pattern.

What should I expect during my first foot and ankle evaluation?

Your first visit generally includes the following steps:

  • A detailed discussion of your symptoms, including their history and how they are affecting your daily life
  • A physical examination to assess range of motion, swelling, and tenderness
  • On-site digital X-rays, if your provider determines imaging is necessary
  • A clear explanation of your diagnosis, communicated without unnecessary medical jargon

If your injury occurred at work, let our team know at scheduling. For open worker’s compensation cases, we coordinate directly with workers’ compensation administrators to help ensure your visit is properly documented and covered.

Do you offer non-surgical treatment options before recommending surgery?

Yes. The majority of the conditions we treat resolve without surgery. Before considering a surgical approach, our specialists typically recommend:

  • Stretching routines and activity modifications
  • Footwear recommendations specific to your foot structure
  • Custom-molded orthotics
  • Physical therapy or anti-inflammatory protocols
  • In-office procedures such as injections or laser treatment

When surgery is genuinely warranted, our specialists are trained in both traditional and minimally invasive techniques, and every option is explained in detail before you decide.

Can I get a second opinion on a foot or ankle condition or proposed surgery?

Yes, and our specialists regularly perform second-opinion consultations. We will review your medical history, examine your foot or ankle directly, and walk you through every treatment option so you can move forward with confidence in your decision.

Do you accept my insurance, and how can I confirm my coverage?

We accept most major insurance plans, including but not limited to Aetna, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Michigan, Centene, Cigna, Humana, Medicare, Priority Health, Tricare East Region, the US Department of Veterans Affairs, and United Healthcare. Since coverage details vary by plan, we recommend calling our office ahead of your visit so our team can confirm your specific benefits.

How quickly can I get an appointment?

Same-week appointments are typically available, with same-day openings common as well. In most instances, a referral is not required to schedule a visit. Because acute injuries need timely attention, we generally keep same-day slots open specifically for urgent concerns.

Do you provide on-site digital X-rays?

Yes. Digital X-ray imaging is available at our locations, allowing most patients to complete their exam and imaging in a single visit rather than being referred elsewhere.

How will I receive my diagnostic test or imaging results?

Results are shared securely through our online Patient Portal as soon as they are available. We then schedule a follow-up appointment so your provider can review the findings with you and outline a personalized treatment plan.

How often should I visit a podiatrist?

Recommended visit frequency depends on your age, activity level, and overall health:

  • Generally healthy adults: an annual check-up, especially if you use orthotics
  • Patients managing arthritis or neuropathy: at least one visit per year to monitor early changes
  • Athletes: periodic evaluations to catch overuse patterns before they progress
  • Acute pain or injury: we recommend scheduling a visit promptly rather than waiting

Because same-day appointments are typically available, there is rarely a reason to delay an evaluation.
